Recent data from Flexioffices revealed that SE1 is the most popular location in the capital for SMEs to rent serviced office space. So, SE1 is a popular spot for startups, but not just for companies in one particular sector. It seems that businesses across a wide range of sectors are choosing SE1, from media and IT to healthcare and not for profit.
If SE1 is where you’d like to rent (or let) property, and you want to know a little bit more about the area, then read on.
SE1 covers the South Bank, Southwark, Bankside, and parts of Lambeth, Bermondsey, and Vauxhall. The area sits on the south bank of the River Thames, and stretches all the way to Elephant and Castle. SE1 has become an extension of the City, and is now a thriving commercial district. Yet it still retains evidence of its roots as a vibrant artistic community, especially around Bermondsey.
Transport links within SE1 are superb, and this includes the Jubilee Line extension and the night tube on the Jubilee Line and Victoria Line. The Thameslink Programme, due to be completed in 2018, will transform travel across London, and has already done so at London Bridge.
London Bridge is a major railway terminus, and is served by Southern and Southeastern trains as well as London Underground (Jubilee Line and the Bank branch of the Northern Line). London Waterloo (multiple tube lines) and Vauxhall (Victoria Line, with night tube access) are also in the vicinity and are major transport hubs, with each providing access to both National Rail and London Underground services.
In addition to the night tube and numerous bus routes, the area is within walking distance of the West End and the City.
There’s a long list of notable attractions within SE1, so we can’t possibly list them all. From the Tate Modern and Shakespeare’s Globe to the Royal Festival Hall, BFI, The Old Vic, Tower Bridge, National Theatre and The Shard, SE1 holds some of London’s best-loved venues and landmarks. Borough Market or the foodie mecca that is Bermondsey Street alone are worth a detour.
With all its cultural attractions (you’ll have many art galleries and museums on your doorstep) and tourist landmarks, which include the London Eye, SE1 has become a top destination for visitors and property hunters alike.
In SE1 you’ll find a mix of riverside apartments, Victorian terraces, warehouse conversions, council estates, and new-build flats. Warehouse conversions have proved a key attraction for property seekers in SE1, especially around Bermondsey Street.
A lot of new developments have shot up within the area, from the new blocks on Upper Ground to flats in The Perspective Building to the well-connected Parliament Reach development, the area has changed beyond recognition in recent years. There are many different types of property available – both period and modern – with something to appeal to every tenant or buyer.
SE1 is a highly desirable place to live, and is one of the most exciting areas in the capital in which to work. Need we say more?
